Jikai Du, Ph.D.

President’s Award for Excellence in Academic Advisement

Dr. Jikai Du is the Director of Mechanical Engineering Technology program in Engineering Technology Department. He joined Buffalo State in 2016.

Dr. Du earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in Engineering Science and Mechanics from The Pennsylvania State University. He also holds a B.E. in Materials Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University, China.

Dr. Du’s research fields are in the integrity evaluation of composite structures and materials characterization with microscopy techniques. 

Dr. Du is a master educator at Buffalo State. He teaches ten different courses at Buffalo State. He developed new courses and is in charge of the ABET accreditation of MET program. He supervises student research projects and advises student chapter/club activities. He is the 2025 recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Academic Advisement.

Dr. Du is a reviewer for Journal of Applied Physics, IEEE, Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation, ASME, ASEE, etc.  He served as PI and co-PI on research grants.
